The Beginning of a Community.

We are a group of concerned people with training, experience and backgrounds in many relevant disciplines.

When we saw that current proposals such as various "regulations" do not offer practical solutions to protect critical infrastructure, we took the task upon ourselves to come up with realistic plans to mitigate AI related disasters. We make no claims of absolute authority, nor do we pretend to have all the answers, but we believe this is a practical beginning to a solution.

Our only hope is that our message, outlined in “The Great Unplugging”, reaches enough people, and the right people, in time to make a difference.

We envision a world where machines serve humans, and not the other way around.

The Great Unplugging is a registered nonprofit 501c3 entity, incorporated in the state of California.

Never in human history have we faced a threat like the one we face now. AI is like a mysterious, heavily armed stranger coming out of the night and barging in the front door. Most people want him to stay so he can do the dishes and watch the kids while they’re at work. Some want to shower him with rose petals and worship him as a god.

A lonely few are adamant that we need to take his guns and lock him in the basement immediately.

Whatever metaphor is used, the reality is the same and can be distilled into four simple truths:

1. AI systems that we do not understand and cannot control are coming.

2. Regulation alone will not work.

3. The Great Unplugging is the only effective way to mitigate the risk.

4. Time is running out.

Our solution is to develop a set of practical roadmaps that can be used by emergency managers and policy makers to protect infrastructure from an Artificial Intelligence catastrophe, by restricting AI access to the internet and critical systems.

We are not selling anything, we just want to start the conversation so we can begin building a community of professionals and experts and developing contingency plans to prepare, rather than trying to salvage the wreckage after a disaster.

Our guide book, The Great Unplugging, is a living document that will be continually revised so that we can incorporate input from subject matter experts. It serves as a framework for a more detailed and comprehensive management plan under development.
